Would be good, deep pushup overhead press burpee with 2 8kg dumbbells. Is it 8 kg per arm or 16kg total?

Gerard van Papendrecht I always log dumbbells per arm :)

Hubert Kowalski, if you do a deadlift with barbell, using two arms, you log halve the weight per arm or full weight?
H
Hubert Kowalski
Gerard van Papendrecht weight per implement, not per arm. Barbell is single implement therefore full weight (I also sum weight of the barbell itself and plates loaded). For dumbbells i log weight put on single dumbbell.

Hubert Kowalski, so using two dumbbells or the same weight barbell, gives a 50% different weight logging?
Honestly I'm confused here

Gerard van Papendrecht The app doesn't care how you specify as long as it makes sense to you. For me it makes sense to have weight per implement. If it doesn't make sense to you - sum the weights of dumbbells.
For me putting the weight of dumbbell makes sense since the weight of the dumbbell is printed right on it. That and the fact that all exercise plans I have also put weight of single dumbbell as weight for given set.

Hubert Kowalski, thanks.
Curious, what kind of app do you use for other training

Hubert Kowalski is right that in its current state, Calistree does not care how you log your weight, as long as your are consistent (I personally always log total weight, unless it's a one-arm exericse like One-arm biceps curl, in which case I log one dumbbell weight).
In the future, that will change though. I think this helper will be a good first step to clear things out, and make sure the weights are logged consistently for all users.
And later, I want to take it a step further by using the weight values to infer the intensity, use that to calculate your experience level, and make weight progressions recommendations.
EDIT: there is now a task for that last part: https://calistree.canny.io/requests/p/strength-level-based-gauging-of-mastery-for-weight-based-exercises

Gerard van Papendrecht I don't use other apps for training (the fitness watch app doesn't count ;) ) However I do use programs from trainers. Especially ones that deal with injury recovery.
